As public employees, almost all conditions affecting our professional environment, are determined by the actions of the New York Legislature, the Governor, and the U. S. Congress. If we wish to have a positive influence on our professional future, we must take an active part in the political process. One easy way to do that is to contribute to VOTE-COPE, NYSUT’s political action fund.
We will kick off this year’s VOTE-COPE drive on Monday, May 22. It will last one week, ending on May 30. Your friendly Building Reps. will be around to personally hand you an information pamphlet and a contribution card. Because of the country wide political attacks on our profession, this year’s drive is more important than ever. Please consider your donation as an insurance payment on our profession. VOTE COPE is the only political apparatus teachers have in New York State.
We are hoping that more people consider contributing via payroll deduction because it is easy to enroll, no cash is ever involved, and those who choose this option don’t have to fill out contribution forms every year.
If you haven’t donated in the past, please consider doing so this year. There has never been a time when your individual contribution has been more important. Our Vote Cope dollars will be used to help promote a “No” vote on New York’s Constitutional Convention. If you have donated in the past, and feel you could give a bit more, please consider it.
