The answer is not surprising. One of the things that makes the Pioneer Central School District so special is our shared dedication to the community we serve. Beginning in late November, Pioneer Corps, the official charitable arm of the Pioneer Faculty Association and school administrators, donated hundreds of dollars and boxes of food to the Delevan Food Pantry. Within a month, an additional 1000 dollars was donated to help the victims of a local Christmastime tragedy. Additionally, Pioneer Pro, a joint charitable operation involving school employees and students, helped make Christmas morning special for children of community members who are struggling financially this time of year. They did this through their Giving Tree project. This project involved school employees purchasing hundreds of presents for local boys and girls in order to put smiles on their faces during the holiday season.
Teachers also worked on numerous charitable projects in their classrooms – helping to foster a sense of civic pride and responsibility in the hearts and minds of their students. Several examples include Kindergarten teachers holding a Chinese Auction that helped raise money for local food pantries and 5th grade students making placemats for the Delevan Nutrition Center, holiday cards for The Pines Nursing Home, bookmarks for the local libraries, and holiday gift bags and ornaments for the Wyoming County Office for the Aging.
